The World Series of Beer Pong III boasts $50,000 Grand Prize; Attracts College Students from throughout the U.S.

(CHICAGO- October 5, 2007) Sign ups begin this week for the third annual World Series of Beer Pong (WSOBP), a three-day competitive beer pong extravaganza with a $50,000 Grand Prize—the largest prize in the history of beer pong.  This year's event will be held January 1 - 5, 2008 at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Last year's WSOBP attracted over 500 players from 38 states and three Canadian provinces, and this year's event is expected to yield even more.

"What we're trying to do with this event is diminish the potential negative aspects of beer pong so we can focus on the positive characteristics of the game:  the competition, the socialization, and having a good time," says co-founder Billy Gaines.  "Besides, the growing popularity of beer pong necessitated a national event, which, as fanatical beer pong players ourselves, we are happy to provide."

The WSOBP is structured so that each team plays 10-12 games over two days, win or lose. The best teams then compete in a final tournament on the third day based on their first two days' performance.

This year’s event is being sponsored by energy-drink powerhouse ‘Four’, along with college-favorite Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, Las Vegas super-bar Tight Rack, and the always amenable Southern Wine and Spirits of Nevada.

The WSOBP has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Stuff Magazine, and Playboy.com.
Players interested in registering for the WSOBP III must do so online at www.bpong.com before the December 3 deadline.  Player packages start at $450 and include hotel fees and entry fees, among other costs.

About Beer Pong

Beer pong itself is simple. Two teams stand at opposite ends of an 8-foot long table, where ten 16-ounce cups, filled with roughly 2 ounces of beer or another liquid, are placed in a bowling-pin formation. Each team takes turns tossing ping-pong balls at their opponent's cup formation. If a ball goes into a cup, the cup is removed from the game. The first team to eliminate all of its opponent's cups wins. At the WSOBP four of the ten cups in the formation are filled with water.

The WSOBP is the largest organized beer pong tournament in the nation, created by BPONG.COM. The WSOBP III is hosted by BPONG.COM in association with Tight Rack, and sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. BPONG.COM is the premier source of beer pong and Beirut information on the Internet, providing a center for collaboration and discussion about the game of beer pong. Tight Rack is a Las Vegas beer pong-themed bar.
